Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions about 7 Cultural Mountains

Q:  Is the Reclaiming the 7 Mountains idea a theology?

A:  No, it is a strategy for impacting culture through the love and servant-hood of Jesus Christ. We believe that there are 7 cultural mountains of influence that define culture more than any other area. It has been proven that culture is often shaped by only a few operating at the top of a cultural mountain of influence. This idea was originally introduced by Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade and Loren Cunningham, founder of Youth With a Mission in 1975.  2And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. - Isa 2:2

Q:  Is the Reclaiming the 7 Mountains strategy about Christians taking over?

A:  No, it is about encouraging Christians to serve the culture by solving societal problems through love, compassion and service as following the example of Jesus Christ. It is about serving those in key cultural spheres that the Church has abandoned. The original mandate in Genesis 1 calls for Adam and Even to exercise stewardship over the earth as God's representative. However, when Adam and Eve fell this mandate could only be restored through the death of Jesus (Luke 19:10, Col. 1:19). We do not believe Christians are to control the world or seek to have a utopia in society. However, we do believe we are called to serve the culture as we live out our faith to be salt and light in all aspects of society.

Q:  Is the Reclaiming the 7 Mountains.com organization discriminatory toward gays, different ethnic groups, or people of different religions?

A:  No, Reclaiming the 7 Mountains exists to encourage and disciple Christians, but we believe that God loves all people and desires a relationship with them, through His Son Jesus  (John 3:16, 17). We affirm all people's right to express their own worldview and hold their own faith viewpoint and reserve the same right to do so.

Q:  Do you believe in the separation between church and state?

A:  Separation of church and state is a reference to a letter written by Thomas Jefferson to someone wanting to know if there should be one denominational influence in the nation as was the case in England. It was not meant to remove God from the public square. It was meant to allow citizens to exercise their right to different faith expressions in the public square, but not limited to one denomination.

Q:  Is the founder of this website, Os Hillman, affiliated with Bishop Julius Oyet from Uganda?

A:  Mr. Hillman was hosted by Bishop Oyet in 2006. Some have tried to tie Mr. Hillman to some anti-gay legislation in that nation to him. He had no prior knowledge of such legislation nor does he support any such legislation.

Q:  Are you affiliated with Sarah Palin?

A:  No, we are not affiliated with Sarah Palin or any political party or candidate.

Q:  What do you do?

A:  We teach and train men and women to understand how to fulfill their God-given purpose in life. We host conferences and events, and provide resources to help Christians live out their faith at work, and be the best example of Christ that they can in their everyday lives.  We have leadership training materials and a free devotional called TGIF, Today God Is First through our main website at http://www.MarketplaceLeaders.org.

Q:  Is Reclaiming the 7 Mountains a cult?

A:  According to Wikipedia, a cult "pejoratively refers to a group whose beliefs or practices are considered abnormal or bizarre," or "reference to groups seen as authoritarian, exploitative and that are believed to use dangerous rituals or mind control."   Reclaiming the 7 Mountains exists to encourage Christians to model love and service in their lives so that others may experience the love and know about the salvation provided through Jesus Christ.  There is no such use of authoritarian techniques, exploitative practices, or the use of dangerous rituals or mind control.  We do not believe the aforementioned ideas are in any way a part of Christianity.  Please see our "Statement of Beliefs" below for further explanation.

Our Statement of Beliefs:

WE BELIEVE the Holy Bible to be the complete, inerrant, authoritative Word of God.

WE BELIEVE there is only one God, eternally existent in 3 persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

WE BELIEVE in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return to earth in power and glory.

WE BELIEVE that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

WE BELIEVE that the only way eternal life is received is by faith alone in Jesus Christ and His atoning death for our sins and in a personal salvation given as a free gift of God, received by faith.

WE BELIEVE in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost - they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of spiritual death.

WE BELIEVE that every believer is commissioned to go into the world and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and to teach them to obey the commands of Jesus Christ.
